Air Brushing

Christina ran away to Key West with a boyfriend when she was 21 to check out a fantasy festival. He was a body-painter; she learned how to do it too, and so began a winter/Florida summer/NCY life She got really really good at her craft. The West End Salon's Dougie found her in Miami and, despite Christina's determination to just say no, talked her into moving to Provincetown in 15 minutes. Christina says, "He can talk an Eskimo into buying ice cubes."

Since 2001, Christina has added a significant amount of delightful color and whimsy to Provincetown's streets. For a sampler, look for Salon denizen Ryan Michael as a walking work of art sauntering up and down Commercial Street and delighting children with a variety of Christina's superhero themes. "The kids can get scared, so we keep it happy and bright colored. They love to follow him around."

"What I love most is working with body shapes. I also love the temporariness of it and the ability to transform and constantly change someone's look. I can create a costume with my paintbrush. And I like that my art disappears, so as I get better, earlier work won't haunt me!"

Christina and her husband Erik (an excellent massage therapist at the Salon) will head out of town in September for a cross-country road trip and a winter stay in Florida. You'll know they will have returned next spring when you see Christina's fabulous bodyart again gracing the streets of Provincetown.*
